Law Week is held in May each year to promote greater community understanding of the legal system and justice related issues.
The aims of Law Week are:
- To improve community understanding of the law, our legal system and justice related issues.
- To provide to the community information about the services available through legal and justice agencies.
- To encourage community participation in the process of law reform
Each year, the Law Week Committee selects a theme for Law Week in South Australia. Through collaboration with public and private sector organisations the Committee develops a comprehensive program of events to inform and educate the community about our legal system. Law Week events are supported through sponsorship by The Law Foundation of South Australia. |

Who is Law Week for?
Law Week events are for the whole community. These events provide opportunities for people from all walks of life to gain new perspectives on legal and justice issues. These events will be of interest to those who work in legal and justice agencies and students.
Planning an Event
Law Week events can be organised individually or by a group of organisations collaborating to share ideas and resources. Organisations who participate in and support Law Week include the Courts Administration Authority, Law firms, The South Australia Police, Municipal Libraries, Community Legal Centres, Legal Aid, the Attorney General’s Department, and the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology, Legal Education Teachers Association of South Australia. The Law Week Committee can offer assistance to organisations wanting to run an event by providing appropriate contacts within many of these organisations.
Publicity
A Law Week program is produced and distributed approximately six weeks prior to Law Week. Organisations presenting Law Week events should register their event for inclusion and promotion in the Law Week program which is sent to law firms, schools, universities, the courts, public libraries and justice related agencies. The Law Week Committee also encourages organisations to publicise their own events to target audiences.
Financial assistance
The Law Week Committee encourages organisations to present self-funded or sponsored events where possible. However the Committee may be able to offer some financial assistance to organisations unable to fund an event. Organisations seeking financial assistance need to present to the Law Week Committee a written submission.
Funding submissions should include information about the organisation presenting the event, the aim of the event, how sponsorship funds will be spent and contact names and telephone numbers.
